In 2021, the Europe mattress support market increased by 12% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, consumption saw a mild increase. The level of consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

For the fourth year in a row, Europe recorded growth in overseas shipments of mattress supports, which increased by 7.3% to X units in 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 10%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, mattress support exports stood at $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 7.9% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the twelve major exporters of mattress supports, namely Poland, Belgium, Lithuania, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Sweden, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +46.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X), Poland ($X) and Germany ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 35% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Lithuania, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Denmark, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 39%.

Ukraine, with a CAGR of +42.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+1.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, approx. X units of mattress supports were imported in Europe; surging by 18% on 2020 figures. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +80.3% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, mattress support imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, France (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) were the key importers of mattress supports in Europe, together making up 31% of total imports. Sweden (X units) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.1% share, followed by the UK (8.1%), Germany (7.3%), Bulgaria (7%) and Spain (5.4%). Austria (X units), Switzerland (X units), Belgium (X units), Italy (X units), Romania (X units) and Poland (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +59.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 40% of total imports. These countries were followed by Sweden, the UK, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Italy, Poland and Romania, which together accounted for a further 43%.

Among the main importing countries, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +45.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -2.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 0.9%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
