Market Size for Meat of Camels and Other Animals in Europe

The Europe market for meat of camels and other animals contracted modestly to $X in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat production dropped to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a mild contraction. Russia (X tons) remains the largest camel and other animal meat producing country in Europe, comprising approx. 63% of total volume. Moreover, camel and other animal meat production in Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, France (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 7.7% share.

In 2022, the average yield of meat of camels and other animals in Europe contracted to X kg per head, almost unchanged from the year before. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the yield increased by 11% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X kg per head in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.

In 2022, number of animals slaughtered for camel and other animal meat production in Europe contracted modestly to X heads, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the number of producing animals saw a slight decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the number of producing animals increased by 1.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, this number hit record highs at X heads in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, producing animals remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of meat of camels and other animals increased by 7.2% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Poland (X tons), distantly followed by Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons), Hungary (X tons), France (X tons), the UK (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Iceland (X tons) were the main exporters of meat of camels and other animals, together mixing up 81% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Iceland (with a CAGR of +9.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Spain ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 39% of total exports. Germany, France, Belgium, Iceland, Hungary and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

Among the main exporting countries, Iceland, with a CAGR of +7.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 9.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 17%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports of Meat of Camels and Other Animals

Imports in Europe

In 2022, the amount of meat of camels and other animals imported in Europe reduced modestly to X tons, dropping by -2.6% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports recorded a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 13%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, camel and other animal meat imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible descent. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by France (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Italy (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) were the key importers of meat of camels and other animals, together comprising 78% of total imports. The following importers - the UK (X tons), Slovenia (X tons), Finland (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - together made up 14% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +14.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 46% share of total imports. Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Finland, Sweden, the UK, the Czech Republic and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 46%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Portugal, with a CAGR of +10.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight descent. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
