Moreover, Luxembourg emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +47.7% from 2012-2022. Slovenia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-4.6%) and France (-10.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+11 p.p.), Germany (+10 p.p.), Luxembourg (+5.3 p.p.) and Denmark (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while France and the UK saw its share reduced by -8% and -25.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Denmark ($X) and the UK ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 44% of total imports. Spain, France, Slovenia, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Italy, Belarus, Luxembourg and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +39.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -8.7% against the previous year. Import price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for motor vehicle chassis fitted with engines decreased by -36.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 41% against the previous year.
