Memories Market Size in Europe
For the fourth consecutive year, the Europe memories market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -8.5% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Memories Production in Europe
In value terms, memories production contracted markedly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the production volume increased by 11%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Europe
In 2021, approx. X units of multichip integrated circuits: memories were exported in Europe; growing by 19% against 2020. Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, memories exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Germany represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 48% of total exports. France (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the Netherlands (X units). All these countries together held near 38% share of total exports. The following exporters - the UK (X units), Ireland (X units) and Austria (X units) - together made up 7.3% of total exports.
Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of multichip integrated circuits: memories. At the same time, Ireland (+41.8%) and Austria (+34.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ireland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +41.8% from 2012-2021. The Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (-5.0%) and the UK (-12.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (+6.7 p.p.), the Netherlands (+3.1 p.p.), Ireland (+2.5 p.p.) and Austria (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the UK and France saw its share reduced by -4.8% and -7.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the largest memories supplying countries in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 68% of total exports. Ireland, the UK and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.9%.
Among the main exporting countries, Ireland, with a CAGR of +26.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, rising by 21% against the previous year. Export price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, memories export price decreased by -5.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 33%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($X per unit), while Austria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+13.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Memories Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2021, overseas purchases of multichip integrated circuits: memories increased by 21% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, memories imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X units) and France (X units) were the key importers of multichip integrated circuits: memories in Europe, together creating 59% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X units) and Hungary (X units), together constituting a 14% share of total imports. Italy (X units), Poland (X units), the UK (X units), Russia (X units), Latvia (X units), Romania (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Latvia (with a CAGR of +47.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest memories importing markets in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 53% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, France, Hungary, the UK, Italy, Russia, Romania and Latvia, which together accounted for a further 32%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Latvia, with a CAGR of +42.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -5.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 15% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while France ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+19.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
