Narrow Woven Fabric Market Size in Europe

After six years of decline, the Europe narrow woven fabric market increased by 10% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, showed a slight slump. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Narrow Woven Fabric Production in Europe

In value terms, narrow woven fabric production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 4.3%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Europe

In 2021, shipments abroad of narrow woven fabrics was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 7.4% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Italy (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented the major exporters of narrow woven fabrics, together mixing up 72% of total exports. Belgium (X tons), Portugal (X tons), the UK (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Croatia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+14.3%), Croatia (+13.0%), the Czech Republic (+6.7%), Slovakia (+5.9%), Portugal (+3.8%), Romania (+3.2%), France (+2.2%) and Italy (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +14.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Spain (-1.5%), Belgium (-5.5%), the Netherlands (-8.7%) and the UK (-11.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Germany, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Belarus and Croatia increased by +7, +2.3, +1.9, +1.9 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 55% of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Belgium, the UK, the Netherlands, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Croatia and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 30%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Croatia, with a CAGR of +14.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 11% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+9.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, overseas purchases of narrow woven fabrics were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the twelve major importers of narrow woven fabrics, namely Russia, Germany, Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Italy, the UK, France, Spain, Belgium and Hungary, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Slovakia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +8.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Romania ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 26% of total imports. Poland, Italy, the UK, the Czech Republic, Russia, Spain, the Netherlands, Hungary, Belgium and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +6.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, surging by 4.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a mild curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
