The Europe natural rubber and gum market amounted to $X in 2022, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a slight setback. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Production of Natural Rubber And Gums in Europe
In value terms, natural rubber and gum production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production enjoyed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 140% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were the Netherlands (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Austria (X tons), together comprising 78% of total production.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +506.2%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Natural Rubber And Gums
Exports in Europe
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of natural rubber and gums, when their volume decreased by -47% to X tons. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 113%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, natural rubber and gum exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 111% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 61% of total exports. Ireland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Denmark (8.4%) and Germany (5.8%). Italy (X tons), Poland (X tons) and the UK (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +16.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ireland (+53.5%), Denmark (+25.2%), Poland (+21.0%) and Italy (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ireland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +53.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the UK (-5.3%) and Germany (-12.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+55 p.p.), Ireland (+12 p.p.), Denmark (+8 p.p.), Italy (+1.9 p.p.) and Poland (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Germany saw its share reduced by -3.5% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest natural rubber and gum supplier in Europe, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Denmark ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Ireland, with a 16% share.
In the Netherlands, natural rubber and gum exports increased at an average annual rate of +17.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (+31.0% per year) and Ireland (+53.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 15% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by 63%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+4.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Natural Rubber And Gums
Imports in Europe
In 2022, supplies from abroad of natural rubber and gums decreased by -24.1% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, natural rubber and gum imports dropped notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 52% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented roughly 40% of total imports in 2022. Germany (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by the UK (9.7%), Spain (9.3%), Belgium (8.6%), Poland (6.4%) and Russia (6.1%).
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +13.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest natural rubber and gum importing markets in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), Italy ($X) and the UK ($X), together comprising 51% of total imports.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +9.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -5.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 24% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (-2.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
