Network Communications Equipment Market Size in Europe
In 2022, the Europe network communications equipment market increased by 6.3% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total consumption indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +46.9% against 2020 indices. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Network Communications Equipment Production in Europe
In value terms, network communications equipment production expanded rapidly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 9.5%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Europe
In 2022, shipments abroad of network communications equipment decreased by -12.9% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. Total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -13.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, network communications equipment exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the four major exporters of network communications equipment, namely Germany, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Poland, represented more than two-thirds of total export. The UK (X units) held a 7.8% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by France (5%). Belgium (X units), Sweden (X units), Denmark (X units) and Hungary (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +24.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest network communications equipment supplier in Europe, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 13% share.
In the Netherlands, network communications equipment exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+5.9% per year) and the Czech Republic (+7.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -2.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 7.1% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Network Communications Equipment Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in purchases abroad of network communications equipment, when their volume decreased by -4.3% to X units. In general, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
In value terms, network communications equipment imports dropped to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +90.7% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 24%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
Germany represented the main importer of network communications equipment in Europe, with the volume of imports reaching X units, which was approx. 34% of total imports in 2022. The Netherlands (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 8.9% share, followed by the Czech Republic (8.8%), the UK (7.4%), Poland (7.3%), Russia (5.3%) and France (4.7%). Belgium (X units), Spain (X units), Hungary (X units), Italy (X units), Sweden (X units) and Denmark (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Germany was also the fastest-growing in terms of the network communications equipment imports, with a CAGR of +13.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Poland (+12.4%), Russia (+11.7%), Denmark (+10.2%), Spain (+7.7%), the Czech Republic (+6.9%), France (+4.4%), Belgium (+3.6%), the UK (+2.7%), Sweden (+2.6%) and Italy (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Hungary experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Netherlands (-3.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Germany (+16 p.p.), Poland (+3.1 p.p.) and Russia (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Hungary (-2.3 p.p.), the UK (-3.1 p.p.) and the Netherlands (-13.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest network communications equipment importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), with a combined 51% share of total imports. The UK, Poland, France, Russia, Hungary, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Sweden and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.
Among the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +14.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 8.3% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
