The Europe market for non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk shrank rapidly to $X in 2022, declining by -15.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.
Production of Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Not Containing Milk in Europe
In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk production dropped sharply to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the production volume increased by 70% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after five years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk, when their volume decreased by -0.8% to X litres. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 12%. The volume of export peaked at X litres in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk exports contracted to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 16%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X litres), the Netherlands (X litres), Switzerland (X litres), Italy (X litres), Austria (X litres), Belgium (X litres), Spain (X litres), Poland (X litres) and France (X litres) represented the key exporter of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk in Europe, constituting 79% of total export. The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X litres), Denmark (X litres), Russia (X litres) and Serbia (X litres) - together made up 11% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +15.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Switzerland ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 53% of total exports. Austria, Italy, Belgium, France, Denmark, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Serbia and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.
Italy, with a CAGR of +12.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per litre in 2022, shrinking by -7.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 6.1%. The level of export peaked at $X per litre in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per litre), while the Czech Republic ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Not Containing Milk
Imports in Europe
For the fifth year in a row, Europe recorded growth in purchases abroad of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk, which increased by 6.3% to X litres in 2022. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +62.2% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 12%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +59.9% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the UK (X litres) and Germany (X litres) represented the major importers of non-alcoholic beverages, not containing milk in Europe, together making up 30% of total imports. France (X litres) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Italy (X litres) and the Netherlands (X litres). All these countries together held near 20% share of total imports. Belgium (X litres), Switzerland (X litres), Spain (X litres), the Czech Republic (X litres), Lithuania (X litres), Slovakia (X litres), Poland (X litres) and Sweden (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, the largest non-alcoholic beverage, not containing milk importing markets in Europe were the UK ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), together accounting for 41% of total imports. The Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +11.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per litre in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 5.7% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per litre in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per litre), while Lithuania ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
