Non-Medical X-Ray Market Size in Europe

The Europe non-medical x-ray market contracted slightly to $X in 2021, declining by -2.4% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -3.7% against 2019 indices. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Non-Medical X-Ray Production in Europe

In value terms, non-medical x-ray production stood at $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 16%. The level of production peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Non-Medical X-Ray Exports

Exports in Europe

In 2021, shipments abroad of non-medical x-rays increased by 21% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-medical x-ray exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Italy (X tons) and Germany (X tons) represented roughly 51% of total exports in 2021. The UK (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Finland (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons). All these countries together held near 28% share of total exports. Slovakia (X tons), Poland (X tons), France (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovakia (with a CAGR of +74.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest non-medical x-ray supplier in Europe, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 9.8% share.

In Germany, non-medical x-ray exports shrank by an average annual rate of -2.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the UK (-1.7% per year) and the Netherlands (+1.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 20%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Non-Medical X-Ray Imports

Imports in Europe

In 2021, non-medical x-ray imports in Europe declined modestly to X tons, shrinking by -4.2% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 31%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-medical x-ray imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the eight major importers of non-medical x-rays, namely Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Russia, Spain, the UK and Poland, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Switzerland (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +16.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Russia ($X) and France ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 39% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, Italy, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Poland and Sweden, which together accounted for a further 42%.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +13.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 21% against the previous year. Import price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-medical x-ray import price increased by +62.8% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
