The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-metal permanent magnet exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented roughly 51% of total exports in 2021. The Netherlands (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X tons) and France (X tons). All these countries together held near 33% share of total exports. Belgium (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Sweden (with a CAGR of +11.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest non-metal permanent magnet supplier in Europe, comprising 34% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Italy (+2.2% per year) and France (+5.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of non-metal permanent magnets was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-metal permanent magnet imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented roughly 35% of total imports in 2021. The Netherlands (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.3% share, followed by Poland (8%), Spain (7.3%), Russia (7.2%) and France (6.8%). Hungary (X tons), the UK (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +15.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest non-metal permanent magnet importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 45% of total imports. Poland, the Netherlands, Hungary, Spain, the Czech Republic, Russia, the UK, Romania, Slovakia and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +18.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 3.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a perceptible decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
