The Europe market for non-woven, felt and coated textile garments contracted sharply to $X in 2021, falling by -50.9% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw measured growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, production of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments declined dramatically to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the amount of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments exported in Europe rose notably to X units, surging by 8.6% against 2020. Overall, exports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, exports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments rose markedly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 18%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Spain (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Germany (X units), France (X units), Belgium (X units), Italy (X units), Denmark (X units) and Poland (X units) was the largest exporter of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments in Europe, committing 80% of total export. The following exporters - the UK (X units), Portugal (X units), Sweden (X units), Croatia (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) - together made up 10% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Croatia (with a CAGR of +61.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest non-woven, felt and coated textile garment supplying countries in Europe were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 42% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, France, Spain, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, the UK, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 46%.

Croatia, with a CAGR of +29.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 5.3% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while Portugal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+4.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports of Non-Woven, Felt and Coated Textile Garments

Imports in Europe

In 2021, purchases abroad of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments decreased by -46.6% to X units for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 157% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments reduced sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 148%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X units), France (X units), Spain (X units), the UK (X units), Italy (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and Belgium (X units) represented the major importer of non-woven, felt and coated textile garments in Europe, constituting 69% of total import. Poland (X units), Denmark (X units), Russia (X units), Sweden (X units), Portugal (X units) and Austria (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +24.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Italy ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 38% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the UK, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Sweden, Austria, Russia, Denmark and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 44%.

Among the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +20.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 9.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Denmark ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
