In value terms, nucleic acid exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +101.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) represented the major exporters of nucleic acids and their salts in Europe, together mixing up 53% of total exports. The Netherlands (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by the UK (X tons), Switzerland (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 36% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +11.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Switzerland ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 23% of total exports. The UK, Spain, Belgium and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 5.6%.
Spain, with a CAGR of +7.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 36% against the previous year. Export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, nucleic acid export price increased by +109.5% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Europe
For the fourth consecutive year, Europe recorded growth in overseas purchases of nucleic acids and their salts, which increased by 16% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +28.4% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, nucleic acid imports reduced rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 117% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Romania (X tons), Spain (X tons), Germany (X tons), Russia (X tons), France (X tons), Italy (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) represented roughly 81% of total imports in 2022.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +52.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported nucleic acids and their salts in Europe, comprising 25% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with an 8% share.
In Germany, nucleic acid imports increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Italy (+8.3% per year) and Belgium (+1.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, declining by -51.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.
