In general, exports, however, recorded a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 62% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, numerically controlled drilling machine exports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) represented the largest exporter of numerically controlled drilling machines for working metal, committing 63% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Italy (X tons), together making up a 25% share of total exports. France (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +25.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Poland (+34.1%), Portugal (+27.4%), Spain (+4.8%) and France (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +34.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Germany (-6.5%) and Italy (-16.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+52 p.p.) and Poland (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Germany and Italy saw its share reduced by -16.9% and -32.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest numerically controlled drilling machine supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Spain ($X), together comprising 59% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, France, Portugal and Poland, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Among the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +44.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 40% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 47% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+10.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, imports of numerically controlled drilling machines for working metal in Europe soared to X tons, with an increase of 244% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate resilient growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, numerically controlled drilling machine imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable decline. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands dominates imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 73% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), creating a 5.1% share of total imports. Austria (X tons), France (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Poland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the numerically controlled drilling machines for working metal imports, with a CAGR of +46.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Austria (+19.7%) and Portugal (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. France and Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Poland (-6.2%) and Germany (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Netherlands increased by +66 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest numerically controlled drilling machine importing markets in Europe were Russia ($X), France ($X) and Austria ($X), together accounting for 48% of total imports. Poland, Germany, Portugal and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

Among the main importing countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +13.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -60.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 69%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
