X-Ray Examination Preparations Market Size in Europe

The Europe x-ray examination preparations market rose rapidly to $X in 2022, increasing by 6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Total exports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +50.9% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

In value terms, x-ray examination preparations exports shrank to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 13%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X tons) was the largest exporter of opacifying preparations for x-ray examinations, creating 37% of total exports. Ireland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 22% share, followed by Italy (19%), France (8.7%) and Belgium (6.1%). The following exporters - Spain (X tons) and Austria (X tons) - each accounted for a 4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +32.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest x-ray examination preparations supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), Ireland ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 68% share of total exports. France, Belgium, Spain and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Belgium, with a CAGR of +29.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+4.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe

After four years of growth, purchases abroad of opacifying preparations for x-ray examinations decreased by -33.4% to X tons in 2022. Total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, x-ray examination preparations imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, France (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), the UK (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented the key importers of opacifying preparations for x-ray examinations, together creating 62% of total imports. Belgium (X tons), Russia (X tons), Norway (X tons), Poland (X tons), Greece (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Switzerland (X tons) and Austria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +10.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), Germany ($X) and Spain ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 39% of total imports. Italy, the UK, Switzerland, Russia, Poland, the Netherlands, Greece, Belgium, Austria and Norway lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.

Among the main importing countries, Greece, with a CAGR of +7.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild reduction. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
