Cyclic Hydrocarbons Market Size in Europe

The Europe cyclic hydrocarbons market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Cyclic Hydrocarbons Production in Europe

In value terms, cyclic hydrocarbons production soared to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Cyclic Hydrocarbons Exports

Exports in Europe

In 2021, overseas shipments of other cyclic hydrocarbons increased by 14% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, showed a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cyclic hydrocarbons exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 51%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) represented the main exporter of other cyclic hydrocarbons, creating 40% of total exports. Belgium (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 25% share, followed by the Netherlands (9.2%), France (7.4%), the UK (7.3%) and Russia (5.3%). Italy (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +4.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest cyclic hydrocarbons supplier in Europe, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 6.4% share.

In Germany, cyclic hydrocarbons exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (+2.2% per year) and the UK (-5.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 20%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Cyclic Hydrocarbons Imports

Imports in Europe

In 2021, overseas purchases of other cyclic hydrocarbons decreased by -6.2% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. In general, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 49%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cyclic hydrocarbons imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands was the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at 51% of total imports. Germany (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Belgium (X tons) and France (X tons). All these countries together took near 38% share of total imports. The UK (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to cyclic hydrocarbons imports into the Netherlands stood at +14.6%. At the same time, Poland (+44.3%), Switzerland (+7.3%), Belgium (+2.5%), the UK (+2.4%), Germany (+2.0%) and France (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +44.3% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Netherlands and Poland increased by +26 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest cyclic hydrocarbons importing markets in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 71% share of total imports. France, Poland, the UK and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

Among the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +40.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 56% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+2.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
