The total consumption indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. In 2022, overseas shipments of overhead travelling cranes on fixed support increased by 54% to X units, rising for the seventh year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 70% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, overhead travelling crane exports amounted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Spain was the major exporter of overhead travelling cranes on fixed support in Europe, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was approx. 34% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Finland (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Germany (X units) and France (X units), together creating a 47% share of total exports. Italy (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Ireland (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to overhead travelling crane exports from Spain stood at +30.3%. At the same time, the Netherlands (+42.8%), Finland (+42.6%), Ireland (+29.9%), the Czech Republic (+23.5%), France (+21.5%), Germany (+8.2%) and Italy (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +42.8% from 2012-2022. While the share of Spain (+22 p.p.), Finland (+14 p.p.), the Netherlands (+12 p.p.), France (+1.9 p.p.) and Ireland (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Italy (-7.5 p.p.) and Germany (-12.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest overhead travelling crane supplying countries in Europe were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Spain ($X), together accounting for 37% of total exports. The Netherlands, France, the Czech Republic, Finland and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.

Ireland, with a CAGR of +101.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -26.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 5.8%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while Ireland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (-1.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, supplies from abroad of overhead travelling cranes on fixed support increased by 145% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports saw a resilient expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, overhead travelling crane imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands was the major importer of overhead travelling cranes on fixed support in Europe, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was near 56% of total imports in 2022. The UK (X units) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Germany (4.9%). Switzerland (X units), France (X units) and Russia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

The Netherlands was also the fastest-growing in terms of the overhead travelling cranes on fixed support imports, with a CAGR of +44.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the UK (+39.1%), Germany (+20.9%), Switzerland (+5.1%) and France (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Russia (-13.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+51 p.p.), the UK (+13 p.p.) and Germany (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Switzerland (-5.3 p.p.), France (-7.8 p.p.) and Russia (-25.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the UK ($X), Russia ($X) and Germany ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 51% of total imports.

The UK, with a CAGR of +29.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -52.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
