The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +57.1% against 2013 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 12%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
In value terms, meat, fish or cheese pasta exports totaled $X in 2022. Total exports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +72.1% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Italy represented the main exporter of pasta stuffed with meat, fish and cheese in Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 39% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), Austria (X tons), France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons), together constituting a 43% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to meat, fish or cheese pasta exports from Italy stood at +4.8%. At the same time, Austria (+16.0%), the Netherlands (+14.7%) and Germany (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Austria emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +16.0% from 2012-2022. Switzerland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (-2.2%) and Belgium (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Austria (+6.4 p.p.), the Netherlands (+4.1 p.p.) and Italy (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Switzerland, France and Belgium saw its share reduced by -1.7%, -6% and -8.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the largest meat, fish or cheese pasta supplier in Europe, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with an 8.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with an 8.3% share.
In Italy, meat, fish or cheese pasta exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (-2.6% per year) and Austria (+13.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 2.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 8.7% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Italy ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while Switzerland ($X per ton) and Austria ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe
For the ninth year in a row, Europe recorded growth in overseas purchases of pasta stuffed with meat, fish and cheese, which increased by 9.1% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 10%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, meat, fish or cheese pasta imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of pasta stuffed with meat, fish and cheese, namely Germany, France and the UK, represented more than third of total import. It was distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), Austria (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Belgium (X tons), together mixing up a 27% share of total imports. Switzerland (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +16.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest meat, fish or cheese pasta importing markets in Europe were France ($X), the UK ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising 49% of total imports. The Netherlands, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, Poland and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.
The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +16.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
