The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, perfume exports amounted to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
France represented the major exporter of perfumes and toilet waters in Europe, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 35% of total exports in 2022. Spain (X tons) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Italy (10%), Germany (8.5%), Poland (7.3%) and the UK (4.9%). In value terms, France ($X) remains the largest perfume supplier in Europe, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 12% share.
In France, perfume exports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Spain (+7.4% per year) and Germany (-1.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 14%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, perfume imports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 20%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the UK (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented the largest importer of perfumes and toilet waters in Europe, committing 57% of total import. France (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Russia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 17% share of total imports. Belgium (X tons), Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Austria (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +11.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 40% of total imports. Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, France, Russia, Belgium, Austria, Romania and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 46%.
The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +13.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 2.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
