Photographic Flashbulb Market Size in Europe

In 2021, the Europe photographic flashbulb market increased by 50% to $X, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. The total consumption indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +72.8% against 2018 indices. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, photographic flashbulb production totaled $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 1.7% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Europe

In 2021, overseas shipments of photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes increased by 37% to X units, rising for the fifth consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports posted noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, photographic flashbulb exports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X units) was the largest exporter of photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes, constituting 38% of total exports. Sweden (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by France (X units), Denmark (X units) and Ireland (X units). All these countries together held approx. 49% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Netherlands (X units) and Spain (X units) - each amounted to a 5.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to photographic flashbulb exports from Germany stood at -4.7%. At the same time, Denmark (+175.4%), Sweden (+68.4%), Spain (+47.9%), France (+41.8%), Ireland (+14.9%) and the Netherlands (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Denmark emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +175.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of Sweden (+19 p.p.), France (+17 p.p.), Denmark (+7.1 p.p.), Ireland (+3.3 p.p.) and Spain (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Germany (-37 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest photographic flashbulb supplier in Europe, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 5.7% share.

In the Netherlands, photographic flashbulb exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-8.6% per year) and France (+0.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, dropping by -17.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Denmark ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ireland (-3.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, supplies from abroad of photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes increased by 101% to X units, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 152%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, photographic flashbulb imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +74.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X units) represented the largest importer of photographic flashbulbs and flashcubes, achieving 36% of total imports. The Netherlands (X units) took a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by France (11%), Belgium (8.3%) and Portugal (5.6%). The UK (X units) and Denmark (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +56.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Belgium ($X) and Germany ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 70% of total imports. These countries were followed by the UK, France, Denmark and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 13%.

Among the main importing countries, Denmark, with a CAGR of +28.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, dropping by -24.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 379%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per unit), while Portugal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+4.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
