For the fourth consecutive year, the Europe pig fat market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 6.8% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption showed a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Pig Fat Production in Europe
In value terms, pig fat production surged to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +97.2% against 2015 indices. As a result, production reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports in Europe
In 2022, shipments abroad of pig fat decreased by -16.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports recorded a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 10% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, pig fat exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 64%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the largest exporters of pig fat in Europe, together recording approx. 49% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Poland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Italy (X tons) and France (X tons), together committing a 32% share of total exports. Belgium (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +4.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, the largest pig fat supplying countries in Europe were Spain ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 56% of total exports.
Spain, with a CAGR of +4.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 49% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Belgium ($X per ton) and Spain ($X per ton), while Germany ($X per ton) and Poland ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe
Pig fat imports fell to X tons in 2022, waning by -11.7% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, pig fat imports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the twelve major importers of pig fat, namely the Netherlands, Ukraine, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Romania, Italy, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Serbia and Bulgaria, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +20.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest pig fat importing markets in Europe were Ukraine ($X), Belgium ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together accounting for 23% of total imports. Romania, France, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Belarus, Germany, Poland, Serbia, Bulgaria and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 49%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Serbia, with a CAGR of +19.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
