The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 25%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, pineapple exports declined significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 27%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands represented the largest exporter of pineapples in Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 48% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Spain (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Italy (X tons) and France (X tons), together achieving a 40% share of total exports. The following exporters - Germany (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - together made up 4.8% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to pineapple exports from the Netherlands stood at -5.2%. At the same time, Italy (+7.8%), Portugal (+7.4%), France (+4.7%), Spain (+4.2%) and Poland (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Italy emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +7.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Germany (-13.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Spain (+9.2 p.p.), Portugal (+7.5 p.p.), Italy (+6.7 p.p.), the Netherlands (+5.4 p.p.) and France (+5.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Germany saw its share reduced by -3.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest pineapple supplier in Europe, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Portugal, with an 8.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the Netherlands totaled -3.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Spain (+6.6% per year) and Portugal (+7.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 10% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 10%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 10%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 8.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), France (X tons), Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the UK (X tons) represented the major importer of pineapples in Europe, mixing up 72% of total import. It was distantly followed by Portugal (X tons) and Russia (X tons), together achieving an 11% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +4.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest pineapple importing markets in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), Spain ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 39% share of total imports. Germany, Italy, the UK, Portugal and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.
Among the main importing countries, Russia, with a CAGR of +5.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 7.1% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Russia ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while the UK ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
