Piper Pepper Market Size in Europe

The Europe piper pepper market contracted to $X in 2022, which is down by -8.1% against the previous year. Overall, consumption saw a mild setback. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Piper Pepper Production in Europe

In value terms, piper pepper production reduced markedly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 55,954,900% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of piper pepper production was Bulgaria (X tons), accounting for 99.9% of total volume.

In Bulgaria, piper pepper production expanded at an average annual rate of +223.8% over the period from 2012-2022.

Exports in Europe

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of piper pepper, when their volume decreased by -9.2% to X tons. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 14%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, piper pepper exports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented the major exporters of piper pepper in 2022, recording near 29% and 22% of total exports, respectively. France (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Spain (7.8%). The following exporters - Austria (X tons), Poland (X tons), Russia (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Latvia (X tons), the UK (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - together made up 22% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Latvia (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest piper pepper supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 58% share of total exports. Austria, Spain, Poland, Belgium, Italy, the UK, the Czech Republic, Russia and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Latvia, with a CAGR of +8.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 8.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a noticeable slump. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of piper pepper, when their volume decreased by -13.6% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, piper pepper imports stood at $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by the UK (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) represented the largest importers of piper pepper, together creating 68% of total imports. The following importers - Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons), Austria (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), Romania (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) - together made up 19% of total imports.

Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of piper pepper. At the same time, Romania (+5.1%), France (+3.6%), Poland (+2.9%), Austria (+2.8%), Italy (+2.2%) and Sweden (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +5.1% from 2012-2022. The UK and Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-2.1%), Ukraine (-2.5%), the Netherlands (-4.1%) and Spain (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of France (+2.8 p.p.) and Poland (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Spain (-3.6 p.p.) and the Netherlands (-5.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest piper pepper importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 44% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Italy, Spain, Austria, Sweden, Belgium, Romania and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 41%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +4.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
