The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Poland (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented the main exporters of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, together achieving 70% of total exports. The following exporters - the UK (X tons), Austria (X tons), Russia (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - together made up 13% of total exports.
Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Russia (+16.4%), Poland (+11.5%), Portugal (+8.4%), Hungary (+7.8%), Austria (+3.8%), Spain (+3.7%), the Czech Republic (+3.1%), France (+2.7%) and Belgium (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +16.4% from 2012-2021. The Netherlands, Italy and the UK experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Poland, Portugal and Russia increased by +3.6, +1.8 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest plastic plate, sheet, film, foil and strip supplier in Europe, comprising 26% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany totaled +2.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+1.3% per year) and Belgium (+2.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 18% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe
For the sixth year in a row, Europe recorded growth in overseas purchases of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, which increased by 6.4% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of plastic plates, sheets, film, foil and strip surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The UK, Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Russia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 48%.
Among the main importing countries, Spain, with a CAGR of +5.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Switzerland ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
