The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the production volume increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of production peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Exports in Europe

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of plastic reservoirs, tanks and vats, when their volume decreased by -0.3% to X tons. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +79.3% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 38%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, plastic reservoir exports stood at $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +100.6% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 40%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Germany was the major exporter of plastic reservoirs, tanks and vats in Europe, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 35% of total exports in 2022. The Netherlands (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by France (9.6%), Norway (5.9%), Italy (5%) and Poland (4.9%). Spain (X tons), Austria (X tons), Ireland (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and the UK (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Norway (+34.4%), the Netherlands (+17.9%), Poland (+17.8%), Ireland (+14.0%), Spain (+7.6%), Italy (+4.2%), Sweden (+2.5%) and Austria (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Norway emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +34.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the UK (-2.3%) and France (-3.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Netherlands (+9.8 p.p.), Norway (+5.4 p.p.) and Poland (+3.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the UK (-2.3 p.p.) and France (-12.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest plastic reservoir supplier in Europe, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany amounted to +4.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+14.6% per year) and Poland (+14.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 16%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Plastic Reservoir Imports

Imports in Europe

In 2022, overseas purchases of plastic reservoirs, tanks and vats decreased by -7.1% to X tons for the first time since 2011, thus ending a ten-year rising trend. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +102.9% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, plastic reservoir imports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +90.5% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the eleven major importers of plastic reservoirs, tanks and vats, namely Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, France, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, the UK, Denmark and Spain, represented more than two-thirds of total import. The following importers - Poland (X tons) and Romania (X tons) - each amounted to a 3.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +16.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Belgium ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 32% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +17.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
