Positive Displacement Pump Market Size in Europe

The Europe positive displacement pump market rose modestly to $X in 2021, growing by 2.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Positive Displacement Pump Production in Europe

In value terms, positive displacement pump production skyrocketed to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production posted a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Europe

In 2021, approx. X units of positive displacement pumps and hand pumps were exported in Europe; remaining stable against the year before. In general, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, positive displacement pump exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 50%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Germany was the key exporter of positive displacement pumps and hand pumps in Europe, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was approx. 43% of total exports in 2021. The UK (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by France (10%), Italy (8.1%) and Belgium (4.8%). The Netherlands (X units), Denmark (X units), Hungary (X units), Poland (X units), Spain (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to positive displacement pump exports from Germany stood at +3.3%. At the same time, Spain (+54.9%), Denmark (+47.1%), the Czech Republic (+43.7%), Hungary (+38.5%), Poland (+33.8%), Italy (+22.7%), France (+20.1%), the Netherlands (+19.8%), Belgium (+13.5%) and the UK (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Spain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +54.9% from 2012-2021. France (+6.7 p.p.), Italy (+5.8 p.p.), Denmark (+3.2 p.p.), Hungary (+3 p.p.), Poland (+2.7 p.p.), Spain (+2.4 p.p.), the Netherlands (+2.4 p.p.) and Belgium (+2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the UK and Germany saw its share reduced by -4.2% and -14% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, France ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 63% of total exports.

France, with a CAGR of +35.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 8.2% against the previous year. Export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, positive displacement pump export price increased by +131.1% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 46% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+12.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe

In 2021, after nine years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of positive displacement pumps and hand pumps, when their volume decreased by -18.7% to X units. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then fell markedly in the following year.

In value terms, positive displacement pump imports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 39%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the UK (X units) and Germany (X units) were the largest importers of positive displacement pumps and hand pumps in Europe, together accounting for approx. 42% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Hungary (X units), Belgium (X units), France (X units) and Ukraine (X units), together achieving a 25% share of total imports. Russia (X units), Italy (X units), Spain (X units), Austria (X units), Poland (X units), Sweden (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +39.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 40% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Russia, the Netherlands, France, Poland, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Austria, Hungary and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 46%.

Among the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +21.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+8.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
