In 2021, overseas shipments of power tools increased by 7.9% to X units, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +86.9% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, power tool exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +98.4% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Germany was the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which amounted to 31% of total exports. The Netherlands (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Hungary (8.5%), Belgium (8.4%), Romania (6.9%) and Austria (6.7%). Poland (X units), Spain (X units), France (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), the UK (X units), Sweden (X units) and Belarus (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to power tool exports from Germany stood at +5.8%. At the same time, Belarus (+111.3%), Spain (+22.0%), the Netherlands (+18.5%), Poland (+13.2%), Austria (+12.3%), Romania (+11.4%), Sweden (+5.8%), Belgium (+4.3%), the UK (+4.3%) and Hungary (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +111.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, France (-3.1%) and the Czech Republic (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Netherlands, Spain, Austria, Romania, Poland and Belarus increased by +7.3, +2.9, +2.6, +2.4, +1.9 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest power tool supplier in Europe, comprising 32% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with an 8.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with an 8.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany totaled +4.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Romania (+21.8% per year) and Belgium (+4.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+15.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Power Tool Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2021, imports of power tools in Europe skyrocketed to X units, rising by 25% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports posted a buoyant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, power tool imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +100.2% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X units), distantly followed by Belgium (X units), Russia (X units), the Netherlands (X units), France (X units), the UK (X units), Spain (X units) and Poland (X units) represented the main importers of power tools, together creating 72% of total imports. Austria (X units), Italy (X units), Hungary (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Ukraine (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +23.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest power tool importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 38% of total imports. These countries were followed by the UK, Belgium, Russia, Poland, Austria, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 45%.
Hungary, with a CAGR of +18.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, surging by 5.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
