After three years of growth, shipments abroad of preparations for perfuming or deodorising rooms decreased by -10.2% to X tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 9.7%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, room deodorants exports contracted to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +60.1% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 18%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons), the UK (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons), France (X tons), Spain (X tons), Russia (X tons), Germany (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) was the largest exporter of preparations for perfuming or deodorising rooms in Europe, mixing up 93% of total export.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +9.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest room deodorants supplying countries in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), the UK ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising 37% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +8.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

For the fifth year in a row, Europe recorded growth in purchases abroad of preparations for perfuming or deodorising rooms, which increased by 4.6% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 8%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, room deodorants imports dropped to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +43.9% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

The UK was the largest importing country with an import of around X tons, which recorded 27% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Poland (X tons), together making up a 38% share of total imports. Belgium (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Spain (X tons), Romania (X tons), Russia (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into the UK increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Netherlands (+8.8%), Hungary (+8.2%), Romania (+5.5%), the Czech Republic (+5.2%), Poland (+4.8%), Germany (+3.9%), Portugal (+2.8%) and Italy (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +8.8% from 2012-2022. France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-1.2%), Belgium (-4.5%) and Russia (-6.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the UK (+7.2 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+4.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of France (-2.7 p.p.), Belgium (-4.4 p.p.) and Russia (-4.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest room deodorants importing markets in Europe were the UK ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), with a combined 38% share of total imports. France, Poland, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Romania, the Czech Republic, Russia, Portugal and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.

Romania, with a CAGR of +11.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -12.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($X per ton), while the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
