From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, exports of pulp from fibres other than wood contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 36% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Denmark (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the major exporters of pulp from fibres other than wood, together constituting 79% of total exports. The Netherlands (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Norway (X tons), Estonia (X tons), France (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Estonia (with a CAGR of +92.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), Hungary ($X) and Spain ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 70% share of total exports. The Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Estonia, Denmark, France, Norway, Belgium and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
Estonia, with a CAGR of +107.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 6.3% against the previous year. Export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for pulp from fibres other than wood increased by +75.3% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+15.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe
In 2022, imports of pulp from fibres other than wood in Europe dropped to X tons, declining by -7.6% compared with 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 4.5%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of pulp from fibres other than wood rose notably to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Germany was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 29% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Austria (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons), the UK (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Italy (X tons), together generating a 53% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to pulp from fibres other than wood imports into Germany stood at -1.4%. At the same time, Belgium (+7.0%), Sweden (+2.7%) and France (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +7.0% from 2012-2022. The Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the UK (-3.3%), Italy (-4.9%) and Austria (-9.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Belgium, France, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands increased by +2.9, +2.8, +2.7, +2.4 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the UK ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 54% share of total imports. France, Sweden, Austria, Italy and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.
Among the main importing countries, Belgium, with a CAGR of +5.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 22% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
