Total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.1% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, exports of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings dropped to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +45.7% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Belgium (X square meters) represented the major exporter of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings, creating 32% of total exports. Luxembourg (X square meters) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Germany (X square meters), France (X square meters), Russia (X square meters) and Sweden (X square meters). All these countries together held near 45% share of total exports. The Netherlands (X square meters), Poland (X square meters), the UK (X square meters), Slovenia (X square meters) and Serbia (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings exports from Belgium stood at +12.3%. At the same time, the Netherlands (+18.5%), Poland (+14.0%), Russia (+10.7%), Slovenia (+7.4%), Germany (+3.7%), Luxembourg (+3.5%), France (+3.1%) and Sweden (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +18.5% from 2012-2022. The UK experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Serbia (-7.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belgium (+14 p.p.), the Netherlands (+2.9 p.p.), Russia (+2.8 p.p.) and Poland (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Germany (-2.6 p.p.), Sweden (-2.6 p.p.), the UK (-2.8 p.p.), France (-2.9 p.p.), Luxembourg (-3.1 p.p.) and Serbia (-5.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the largest PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings supplier in Europe, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with an 11% share.

In Belgium, exports of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (+1.7% per year) and Germany (+1.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per square meter in 2022, rising by 2.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 7.8%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per square meter), while Russia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (-0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports of PVC Floor, Wall and Ceiling Coverings

Imports in Europe

After ten years of growth, overseas purchases of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings decreased by -3% to X square meters in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X square meters, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings shrank modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X square meters), distantly followed by the UK (X square meters), France (X square meters), Belgium (X square meters), the Netherlands (X square meters) and Italy (X square meters) were the largest importers of PVC floor, wall and ceiling coverings, together generating 68% of total imports. Poland (X square meters), Spain (X square meters), Russia (X square meters), the Czech Republic (X square meters), Portugal (X square meters), Sweden (X square meters) and Austria (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +20.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 43% of total imports. Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Russia, Portugal and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.

Among the main importing countries, Italy, with a CAGR of +17.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per square meter in 2022, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 3.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Italy ($X per square meter) and Sweden ($X per square meter), while Belgium ($X per square meter) and Portugal ($X per square meter) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (-0.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
