Quicklime Market Size in Europe

Overall, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +25.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 55% share of total exports. Spain, Norway, Slovakia, Poland, Italy, Russia, Portugal, Croatia, Finland and Bosnia and Herzegovina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

Portugal, with a CAGR of +27.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 26% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Quicklime Imports

Imports in Europe

In 2022, approx. X tons of quicklime were imported in Europe; increasing by 8.7% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 17%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, quicklime imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons), Finland (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) represented roughly 54% of total imports in 2022. Sweden (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 6.2% share, followed by Belarus (4.7%) and Belgium (4.6%). The Czech Republic (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Poland (X tons), Lithuania (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Hungary (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Lithuania (with a CAGR of +14.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Finland ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 46% share of total imports. France, Sweden, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Belarus, Hungary, Lithuania and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.

Lithuania, with a CAGR of +12.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+4.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
