Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, quinones exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 31%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) and the UK (X tons) dominates exports structure, together making up 76% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Austria (X tons), creating a 6.8% share of total exports. The following exporters - Norway (X tons), Switzerland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) - together made up 12% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Austria (with a CAGR of +16.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest quinones supplier in Europe, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Switzerland, with an 11% share.
In the Netherlands, quinones exports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (-3.7% per year) and Switzerland (+5.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -7.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Norway ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+5.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe
In 2022, the amount of quinones imported in Europe fell to X tons, declining by -13.1% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 13%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, quinones imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 14%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the twelve major importers of quinones, namely Belgium, Germany, Spain, Austria, Sweden, Russia, Italy, Finland, the Netherlands, Hungary, Poland and France, represented more than two-thirds of total import.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +53.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and Sweden ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 42% of total imports. Austria, Italy, Hungary, Finland, the Netherlands, France, Russia, Spain and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.
Among the main importing countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +38.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 24%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+17.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
