Raspberry And Blackberry Market Size in Europe
After two years of growth, the Europe raspberry and blackberry market decreased by -0.9% to $X in 2022. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.
Raspberry And Blackberry Production in Europe
In value terms, raspberry and blackberry production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.
The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Russia (X tons), Serbia (X tons) and Poland (X tons), together accounting for 68% of total production. Spain, Ukraine, Portugal and Bosnia and Herzegovina lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Portugal (with a CAGR of +15.9%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In 2022, the average yield of raspberries and blackberries in Europe rose modestly to X tons per ha, with an increase of 2.3% on the year before. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the raspberry and blackberry yield failed to regain momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
The raspberry and blackberry harvested area contracted slightly to X ha in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the year before. In general, the harvested area, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the harvested area increased by 14%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to raspberry and blackberry production reached the maximum at X ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the harvested area remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Europe
In 2022, the amount of raspberries and blackberries exported in Europe amounted to X tons, increasing by 2% on the previous year. In general, exports showed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 36%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, raspberry and blackberry exports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 28%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
Exports by Country
Spain represented the key exporter of raspberries and blackberries in Europe, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 44% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Portugal (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Poland (X tons) and France (X tons), together committing a 46% share of total exports. Germany (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Spain increased at an average annual rate of +16.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Portugal (+23.1%), the Netherlands (+18.8%), France (+15.6%), Germany (+9.1%) and Belgium (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Portugal emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +23.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Poland (-3.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Spain (+15 p.p.), Portugal (+12 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+6.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Belgium (-1.5 p.p.) and Poland (-24.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Spain ($X) remains the largest raspberry and blackberry supplier in Europe, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Portugal ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 17% share.
In Spain, raspberry and blackberry exports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Portugal (+19.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+14.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+14.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Raspberry And Blackberry Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, the amount of raspberries and blackberries imported in Europe was estimated at X tons, increasing by 1.9% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports recorded strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, raspberry and blackberry imports fell slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), the UK (X tons) and France (X tons) represented roughly 76% of total imports in 2022. Italy (X tons), Austria (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +46.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 49% share of total imports. The UK, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +48.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, declining by -6.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 7.9%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+8.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
