In 2021, reclaimed rubber exports in Europe skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 40% on the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, reclaimed rubber exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons), distantly followed by Portugal (X tons), Croatia (X tons), Germany (X tons), the UK (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Austria (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the key exporters of reclaimed rubber, together comprising 83% of total exports.
Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Croatia (+115.7%), Portugal (+30.7%), Belarus (+13.4%), Belgium (+9.9%), the UK (+6.0%), Italy (+5.2%) and Austria (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Croatia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +115.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Germany (-1.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Croatia, Portugal, Belarus and Belgium increased by +10, +8.9, +3 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest reclaimed rubber supplier in Europe, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 7.1% share.
In the Netherlands, reclaimed rubber exports shrank by an average annual rate of -2.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-3.4% per year) and Belgium (+5.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -15.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 27%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Austria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Croatia (+11.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Reclaimed Rubber Imports
Imports in Europe
After three years of decline, supplies from abroad of reclaimed rubber increased by 44% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, reclaimed rubber imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the five major importers of reclaimed rubber, namely the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Russia, Germany and the UK, represented more than half of total import. It was distantly followed by Switzerland (X tons), making up a 4.8% share of total imports. Romania (X tons), France (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Croatia (X tons), Spain (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Italy (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Croatia (with a CAGR of +64.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest reclaimed rubber importing markets in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together accounting for 42% of total imports. These countries were followed by the UK, Romania, Italy, Russia, Spain, France, Portugal, Switzerland, Slovakia and Croatia, which together accounted for a further 40%.
Croatia, with a CAGR of +51.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
