In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of recovered fibre pulp, when their volume decreased by -21.4% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
In value terms, recovered fibre pulp exports fell to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 44%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Switzerland (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons), together finishing at 89% of total export. Austria (X tons) and Poland (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for France (with a CAGR of +38.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), Germany ($X) and Austria ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 88% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, France, with a CAGR of +44.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 8.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Switzerland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Recovered Fibre Pulp Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, recovered fibre pulp imports in Europe reached X tons, picking up by 4.3% compared with 2021 figures. Total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +3.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 32%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, recovered fibre pulp imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by the Czech Republic (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the largest importers of recovered fibre pulp, together making up 74% of total imports. Austria (X tons), Poland (X tons), Romania (X tons), Sweden (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and the UK (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +66.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest recovered fibre pulp importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and the UK ($X), together accounting for 58% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, the UK, with a CAGR of +30.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, falling by -7.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
