Refined Coconut Oil Market Size in Europe
In 2022, the Europe refined coconut oil market increased by 2.7% to $X, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the market value increased by 4.9% against the previous year. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 7.8%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, shipments abroad of refined coconut (copra) oil decreased by -9% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, refined coconut oil exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +76.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 73% of total exports in 2022. Germany (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 6.5% share, followed by Spain (5.7%) and Italy (5.3%). France (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
The Netherlands experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of refined coconut (copra) oil. At the same time, Sweden (+18.7%), Spain (+12.3%), Italy (+9.9%) and France (+6.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sweden emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +18.7% from 2012-2022. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Spain (+3.7 p.p.), Italy (+3 p.p.) and Sweden (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of the Netherlands (-12.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest refined coconut oil supplier in Europe, comprising 70% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 6.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Spain, with a 6.2% share.
In the Netherlands, refined coconut oil exports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+3.4% per year) and Spain (+17.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 17% against the previous year. Export price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, refined coconut oil export price increased by +72.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Sweden ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+6.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe
In 2022, the amount of refined coconut (copra) oil imported in Europe rose slightly to X tons, picking up by 5% on the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, refined coconut oil imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +90.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 52%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), Russia (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons), France (X tons), the UK (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the largest importers of refined coconut (copra) oil, together constituting 78% of total imports. Greece (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Spain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +23.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest refined coconut oil importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 41% share of total imports. Italy, France, Russia, the UK, the Netherlands, Austria, Greece and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.
Greece, with a CAGR of +25.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, refined coconut oil import price increased by +73.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 41%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
