Rum Market Size in Europe

The Europe rum market totaled $X in 2022, increasing by 4% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in the UK ($X per litre) and France ($X per litre), while the Netherlands ($X per litre) and Spain ($X per litre) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+9.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of rum imported in Europe stood at X litres, increasing by 7% against the previous year. Total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +28.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 20%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, rum imports stood at $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X litres), Spain (X litres), Italy (X litres), the UK (X litres) and Germany (X litres) represented roughly 71% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by France (X litres), constituting a 4.9% share of total imports. Russia (X litres), Belgium (X litres), the Czech Republic (X litres) and Poland (X litres) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +18.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Spain ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 44% of total imports. The Netherlands, the UK, France, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Russia and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +20.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Europe stood at $X per litre in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, the import price saw a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 4% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per litre), while the Netherlands ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
