The Europe bed-convertible seat market expanded remarkably to $X in 2021, picking up by 5.9% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In 2021, overseas shipments of seats convertible into beds increased by 15% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports showed a moderate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 62% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, bed-convertible seat exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +127.5% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 62%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Poland was the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which recorded 59% of total exports. Romania (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by Portugal (4.8%). Belarus (X units), Ukraine (X units), Slovakia (X units), Germany (X units) and Russia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Poland increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Russia (+16.1%), Ukraine (+9.8%), Portugal (+8.8%), Slovakia (+7.5%) and Belarus (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +16.1% from 2012-2021. Romania experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (-7.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (+6.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Germany (-4 p.p.) and Romania (-5.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest bed-convertible seat supplier in Europe, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Romania ($X), with a 6.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 4.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Poland amounted to +7.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (-0.1% per year) and Germany (+1.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, rising by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+9.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

Bed-convertible seat imports skyrocketed to X units in 2021, increasing by 17% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +62.5% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 55%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, bed-convertible seat imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +63.2% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Germany (X units) and France (X units) represented roughly 36% of total imports in 2021. The Czech Republic (X units) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Italy (X units) and Poland (X units). All these countries together held approx. 17% share of total imports. Switzerland (X units), the UK (X units), Austria (X units), Croatia (X units), Russia (X units), Spain (X units), Sweden (X units) and Denmark (X units) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +21.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest bed-convertible seat importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), France ($X) and Austria ($X), together accounting for 43% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy, the UK, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Spain and Croatia, which together accounted for a further 36%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +20.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, growing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 24%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while Poland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
