In 2022, shipments abroad of semiconductor thyristors, diacs and triacs increased by 7.5% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, semiconductor thyristor exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X units) was the largest exporter of semiconductor thyristors, diacs and triacs, achieving 45% of total exports. Slovakia (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Hungary (X units) and the UK (X units). All these countries together held approx. 31% share of total exports. The following exporters - France (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Russia (X units), Poland (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and Belgium (X units) - together made up 16% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to semiconductor thyristor exports from Germany stood at +15.2%. At the same time, Slovakia (+74.5%), the Czech Republic (+39.6%), Belgium (+29.2%), Poland (+28.6%), Hungary (+13.9%) and the Netherlands (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovakia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +74.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, France (-3.0%), Russia (-3.1%) and the UK (-5.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland increased by +20, +15, +4.4, +3.1 and +2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest semiconductor thyristor supplier in Europe, comprising 38% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany totaled +5.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hungary (+4.5% per year) and France (-2.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 12%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while Slovakia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Semiconductor Thyristor Imports
Imports in Europe
For the third year in a row, Europe recorded growth in purchases abroad of semiconductor thyristors, diacs and triacs, which increased by 39% to X units in 2022. In general, imports posted a buoyant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, semiconductor thyristor imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +83.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Germany represented the key importer of semiconductor thyristors, diacs and triacs in Europe, with the volume of imports amounting to X units, which was near 35% of total imports in 2022. The UK (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Belgium (6.8%), Italy (6.5%), Slovakia (6.3%) and France (5.7%). Spain (X units), Russia (X units), Poland (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Finland (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Romania (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to semiconductor thyristor imports into Germany stood at +14.0%. At the same time, Belgium (+44.9%), Slovakia (+30.3%), Finland (+28.2%), Italy (+19.5%), Romania (+13.4%), Russia (+13.3%), Poland (+12.9%), Spain (+11.3%), the Czech Republic (+6.3%), the UK (+6.3%) and the Netherlands (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belgium emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Europe, with a CAGR of +44.9% from 2012-2022. France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Germany, Belgium, Slovakia, Italy and Finland increased by +9.4, +6.4, +5.1, +3.6 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported semiconductor thyristors, diacs and triacs in Europe, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with an 8.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7.5% share.
In Germany, semiconductor thyristor imports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belgium (+38.8% per year) and Italy (+9.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 1.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 35%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
