The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +86.1% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, sesame oil exports rose sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 46%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), France (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and the UK (X tons) represented the main exporters of sesame oil, together creating 87% of total exports. The following exporters - Italy (X tons) and Poland (X tons) - together made up 4.4% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Poland (with a CAGR of +24.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest sesame oil supplying countries in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 71% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Belgium, the UK, Italy and Poland, which together accounted for a further 21%.
Among the main exporting countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +37.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 7.4%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+10.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the sixth consecutive year, Europe recorded growth in purchases abroad of sesame oil, which increased by 13% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +64.4% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, sesame oil imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of sesame oil imports in 2021 were the UK (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons), together accounting for 69% of total import. Russia (X tons) held a 5.4% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belgium (5.2%). Switzerland (X tons), Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In terms of the main importing countries, Spain, with a CAGR of +19.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, rising by 2.5% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 9%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
