As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Italy was the main exporter of silk shawls and scarves in Europe, with the volume of exports recording X units, which was near 50% of total exports in 2022. France (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Germany (X units). All these countries together held near 36% share of total exports. The following exporters - the UK (X units), Spain (X units), Serbia (X units) and Poland (X units) - together made up 8.2% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +42.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, silk shawl and scarf imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

France represented the major importer of silk shawls and scarves in Europe, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 37% of total imports in 2022. Italy (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the UK (X units), Germany (X units), Spain (X units) and Switzerland (X units). All these countries together took approx. 49% share of total imports. The Netherlands (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +2.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

The import price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -11.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 25%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while Spain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
