Total exports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The biggest shipments were from Poland (X tons), France (X tons) and Russia (X tons), together recording 65% of total export. Belgium (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with an 8.8% share, followed by Romania (7%), Spain (5.4%) and Germany (5.2%).

Among the main exporting countries, Belgium, with a CAGR of +5.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 10% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 32%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of caustic soda in the solid form plummeted to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -15.7% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of caustic soda in solid form reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of caustic soda in the solid form reduced to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 27%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

The countries with the highest levels of imports of caustic soda in the solid form in 2021 were Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons), Russia (X tons), Poland (X tons), Germany (X tons), Ukraine (X tons), Belarus (X tons), France (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and the UK (X tons), together amounting to 78% of total import. In value terms, the largest caustic soda in the solid form importing markets in Europe were Italy ($X), Poland ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 31% share of total imports.

Poland, with a CAGR of +11.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
