Spark Plug Market Size in Europe

The Europe spark plug market declined sharply to $X in 2022, which is down by -18.5% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of sparking plugs increased by 43% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +129.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 60%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, spark plug exports reduced to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +53.2% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Germany dominates exports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 57% of total exports in 2022. France (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Netherlands (X units). All these countries together held approx. 15% share of total exports. Russia (X units), Austria (X units), the UK (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Belgium (X units), Poland (X units) and Italy (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to spark plug exports from Germany stood at +5.6%. At the same time, Poland (+11.9%), Russia (+9.9%), the Netherlands (+3.6%), the UK (+3.5%), Austria (+3.3%) and the Czech Republic (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Poland emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +11.9% from 2012-2022. France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-1.7%) and Italy (-2.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (+6.6 p.p.) and Russia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Italy, Belgium and France saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -2.4% and -5.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest spark plug supplier in Europe, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 9.9% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany amounted to +5.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: France (-0.2% per year) and the Netherlands (+4.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -34.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 34%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Russia ($X per unit) and the UK ($X per unit), while Germany ($X per unit) and France ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

Spark plug imports contracted rapidly to X units in 2022, which is down by -19.7% compared with 2021. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, spark plug imports shrank to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 29%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Imports by Country

Germany represented the key importer of sparking plugs in Europe, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 31% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Russia (X units), the UK (X units), France (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Poland (X units) and Italy (X units), together committing a 45% share of total imports. Belgium (X units), Hungary (X units), Austria (X units), Sweden (X units), Spain (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of sparking plugs. Russia, Poland and France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. the Czech Republic (-1.9%), the Netherlands (-2.9%), Sweden (-3.3%), Spain (-4.1%), Belgium (-4.3%), Italy (-5.6%), the UK (-5.6%), Hungary (-5.8%) and Austria (-7.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (+4.6 p.p.) and Russia (+3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Austria, Italy and the UK saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -2% and -3.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sparking plugs in Europe, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with an 8.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany amounted to +4.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+2.5% per year) and the UK (+1.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 12% against the previous year. Import price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, spark plug import price increased by +46.8% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
