Spinach Market Size in Europe

The average spinach yield shrank modestly to X tons per ha in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the year before. Over the period under review, the yield, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. Spinach exports dropped to X tons in 2022, waning by -7.5% against the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, spinach exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Italy (X tons) and Spain (X tons) represented the main exporters of spinach in Europe, together accounting for near 67% of total exports. The Netherlands (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by France (7.3%). The following exporters - Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) - each amounted to a 5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +16.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X), Spain ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 87% of total exports.
Italy, with a CAGR of +16.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, waning by -4.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, spinach export price increased by +64.9% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 18% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, spinach imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 26%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2022, the UK (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented the main importer of spinach in Europe, generating 70% of total import. It was distantly followed by France (X tons), constituting a 5.4% share of total imports. Poland (X tons), Spain (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Switzerland (X tons) and Italy (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Belgium, Poland, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +22.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -7.8% against the previous year. Import price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 22% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
