In 2022, overseas shipments of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic decreased by -14.3% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Total exports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, plastic ornamental articles exports reduced to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +79.0% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 29%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) was the main exporter of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic, generating 33% of total exports. Germany (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 14% share, followed by Poland (8.3%), Spain (6.4%), France (5.6%) and Belgium (5%). The following exporters - Italy (X tons), Sweden (X tons), the UK (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Slovenia (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) - together made up 16% of total exports.

Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hungary (+45.1%), Slovakia (+40.2%), Slovenia (+33.9%), Sweden (+13.6%), Denmark (+7.7%), Poland (+4.8%), Spain (+4.6%), France (+2.7%), Italy (+2.0%) and the UK (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +45.1% from 2012-2022. Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Belgium (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Hungary (+2.2 p.p.), Poland (+2 p.p.), Sweden (+1.9 p.p.), Slovenia (+1.5 p.p.) and Slovakia (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Germany and Belgium saw its share reduced by -1.9% and -8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest plastic ornamental articles supplying countries in Europe were the Netherlands ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 53% share of total exports. Poland, Belgium, Spain, the UK, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +29.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 16%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+7.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, imports of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic in Europe contracted to X tons, dropping by -9.2% on 2021. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, plastic ornamental articles imports reached $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +74.6% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X tons), followed by France (X tons), the UK (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented the main importers of statuettes and other ornamental articles of plastic, together mixing up 70% of total imports. The following importers - Russia (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Austria (X tons), Greece (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) - together made up 16% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +9.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the UK ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 47% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Poland, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, Sweden and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +12.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 20% against the previous year. Import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, plastic ornamental articles import price increased by +67.1% against 2013 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+10.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
