Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Germany represented the major exporter of sulphides of non-metals and commercial phosphorus trisulphide in Europe, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. 64% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), committing a 30% share of total exports. Slovenia (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to sulphides of non-metals exports from Germany stood at +2.5%. At the same time, Slovenia (+249.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Slovenia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of +249.9% from 2012-2021. Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Germany, Slovenia and Russia increased by +16, +3.9 and +2.7 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest sulphides of non-metals supplier in Europe, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany totaled +5.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Russia (+2.9% per year) and Slovenia (+164.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Export price indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, sulphides of non-metals export price increased by +68.8% against 2016 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe

After three years of decline, purchases abroad of sulphides of non-metals and commercial phosphorus trisulphide increased by 6.4% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sulphides of non-metals imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 12%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Belgium (X tons) represented the main importer of sulphides of non-metals and commercial phosphorus trisulphide, creating 38% of total imports. Austria (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Spain (X tons) and France (X tons). All these countries together held near 44% share of total imports. The following importers - Bulgaria (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) - together made up 6.8% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Spain (with a CAGR of +52.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported sulphides of non-metals and commercial phosphorus trisulphide in Europe, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Belgium was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-9.1% per year) and Austria (-2.1% per year).

In 2021, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 7.8%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (-0.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
