The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 34%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2022, Germany (X tons) was the main exporter of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates, mixing up 46% of total exports. Belgium (X tons) took a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by France (13%) and Austria (5%). Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 34% against the previous year. Export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates export price increased by +113.3% against 2016 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.5% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Russia (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the key importers of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates in 2022, resulting at near 21% and 16% of total imports, respectively. Italy (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.2% share, followed by the UK (5.7%), Norway (5.2%), Sweden (5.2%) and Spain (5.2%).
