Surgical Glove Market Size in Europe
After six years of growth, the Europe surgical glove market decreased by -25.5% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate prominent growth. In value terms, surgical glove exports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 120%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined markedly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the key exporters of surgical gloves in 2022, amounting to near 37% and 28% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons) and Austria (X tons), together constituting a 17% share of total exports. Denmark (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Spain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +37.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest surgical glove supplying countries in Europe were Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Belgium ($X), together comprising 70% of total exports. Austria, Hungary, Spain and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Denmark, with a CAGR of +26.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -11.3% against the previous year. Export price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, surgical glove export price increased by +57.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Surgical Glove Imports
Imports in Europe
After ten years of growth, supplies from abroad of surgical gloves decreased by -25% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 66% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
In value terms, surgical glove imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 136%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented the main importers of surgical gloves in Europe, together resulting at near 50% of total imports. The UK (X tons) took an 8.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Denmark (8%) and France (4.6%). Austria (X tons), Spain (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Poland (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +40.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported surgical gloves in Europe, comprising 32% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Germany stood at +13.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the UK (+18.9% per year) and the Netherlands (+17.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 5.8% against the previous year. Import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, surgical glove import price increased by +102.2% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 42%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
