Table Flatware Market Size in Europe

In 2022, the Europe table flatware market increased by 9.6% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports in Europe

In 2022, the amount of table flatware exported in Europe fell to X tons, dropping by -7.2% against the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, table flatware exports reduced to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 23%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) represented roughly 39% of total exports in 2022. Italy (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 10% share, followed by Belarus (7.4%), Spain (6.7%), France (6.1%) and Poland (5.6%). Portugal (X tons), the UK (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Austria (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +64.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 51% share of total exports. The Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Spain, the UK, Belgium, Austria, Sweden, Belarus and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

Among the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +51.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 8.3% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+7.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, imports of table flatware in Europe totaled X tons, growing by 8.6% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, table flatware imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The purchases of the twelve major importers of table flatware, namely Germany, France, the UK, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Italy, Russia, Belgium, Austria, Sweden and Romania, represented more than two-thirds of total import.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +9.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 38% of total imports. The Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Poland, Austria, Russia, Belgium, Sweden and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +11.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 1.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 4.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
