Table Knife Market Size in Europe

The Europe table knife market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after four years of decline. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, table knife production expanded modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, approx. X units of table knives were exported in Europe; increasing by 4.2% compared with the previous year's figure. Total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +20.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, table knife exports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +40.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 44%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Germany (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Italy (X units) and France (X units) represented the key exporter of table knives in Europe, committing 65% of total export. It was distantly followed by Portugal (X units) and Belgium (X units), together creating a 10% share of total exports. The following exporters - Poland (X units), Spain (X units), the UK (X units), Slovakia (X units), Austria (X units), Belarus (X units) and Hungary (X units) - together made up 17% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +101.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Italy ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 62% share of total exports. The Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Poland, the UK, Spain, Slovakia, Austria, Belarus and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

Among the main exporting countries, Belarus, with a CAGR of +104.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 4.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 11%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+6.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

In 2022, overseas purchases of table knives increased by 48% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, table knife imports surged to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of table knife imports in 2022 were Italy (X units), Germany (X units), France (X units), the UK (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Russia (X units), Spain (X units), Belgium (X units) and Poland (X units), together recording 81% of total import.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +11.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest table knife importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 47% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the UK, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Belgium and Russia, which together accounted for a further 31%.

Poland, with a CAGR of +11.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -1.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
