Cotton Table Linen Market Size in Europe
The Europe cotton table linen market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after three years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Cotton Table Linen Production in Europe
In value terms, cotton table linen production rose notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 10%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in Europe
In 2022, overseas shipments of table linen of cotton increased by 7.1% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cotton table linen exports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the eight major exporters of table linen of cotton, namely Italy, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, France and Portugal, represented more than two-thirds of total export. The following exporters - Belarus (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Greece (X tons) and Croatia (X tons) - together made up 12% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Greece (with a CAGR of +39.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest cotton table linen supplying countries in Europe were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Spain ($X), with a combined 45% share of total exports. France, Belgium, Portugal, Poland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Belarus, Croatia and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Greece, with a CAGR of +27.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, growing by 2.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Croatia (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cotton Table Linen Imports
Imports in Europe
In 2022, overseas purchases of table linen of cotton increased by 4.1% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cotton table linen imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons) and France (X tons) represented the main importer of table linen of cotton in Europe, constituting 50% of total import. The UK (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 7.7% share, followed by Belgium (5.4%) and Spain (4.9%). The Netherlands (X tons), Poland (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Austria (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Switzerland (X tons) and Russia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +9.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest cotton table linen importing markets in Europe were Germany ($X), France ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising 48% of total imports. The UK, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, Sweden and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +10.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 8.3%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
